No Quick Fixes

The one thing the Michigan legislature and governor haven’t learned is fiscal responsibility.  The staggering economy has hit Michigan the hardest and instead of tightening up their belts, our leaders decided to increase the budget last year.  I’m glad to see I’m not the only one calling for major cuts in the Michigan budget.  Of course, the Democrats usually respond with more taxes, but that’s not such a good idea:

These days, it’s obvious no one can make a case for tax increases,
either economically or politically. So we’ve got to look at spending.

Some Democrats will always make the case for tax increases, especially on the rich and those “evil” corporations.  But in an election year, you won’t see anyone propose higher taxes.  Wait until January.

I wonder if Democrats know how to cut spending, seeing as they are so used to spending other people’s money.  They keep holding out, passing minor budget fixes (ie, tax increases) to get them through the next year, hoping that the economy will turn around so they can continue spending more of our money.  They need to fix the disease, not the symptom.  This proposal attempts to ween them off the tax-payer’s bottle.  It’s a good start, hopefully someone in Lansing will listen.
