Bad Advice

The Freep is getting cocky.  Now that the people they take orders from are in control of the executive and legislative branches for the federal government, they believe they can offer advice to the GOP on what they need to do to regain balance.  A couple things here.  First, the popular vote was relatively close – it’s not like Obama won with 60+ percent.  Second, the goal of the GOP (and any political organization) is not balance, but control.

The op-ed goes on to give some more bad advice: broaden the base, focus on the economy, and find some leadership.  Well, that last one is something the GOP needs to work on.  As for broadening the base, again, the split is relatively close, no need to dilute the message in order to convince people to vote Republican.  And the last place the GOP should look for economic advice is the Democratic party (or their minions in the media).  Our current economic crisis was caused by Democratic policies – Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, CRA, etc.

My advice for the GOP is to get back on message – fiscal responsibility, small government, strong national defense.  Let the current ruling party pass their economic stimulus package and make matters worse.  Find some leadership in the ranks right now so that when 2010 comes around, the GOP can pick up some seats (and maybe a majority) in Congress.

Whatever you do, don’t listen to the Freep.
